C 28782 Tryon Firemen Can Be Paged The Tryon Volunteer Fire Department is now equipped with pocket pagers ("beepers") ac cording to Fire Chief Clarence Scoggins. The pagers were purchased for the Fire Depart ment by the Town of Tryon and will replace the'present system of fire phones. In the past the Radio Dispatcher notified the Firemen of a fire call by a phone system of 20 simultaneous calls to all the Firemen, with the new pager system the Radio Dispatcher has the capability of notifying the Firemen cither as a group or even individually. This new communications system will increase the speed and effective ness to respond to fire calls as quickly as possible; therefore, reduce or eliminating property losses and risk to personal lives. Firemen will carry the pagers at all times. Clinic Schedule Clinic schedule for week of April 14th at the Polk County Health Department in Columbus is as follows: Monday: General clinic (im munization, hypertension screening, Tbc. test, etc ) 8:30 a.m. to5p.m. Tuesday: Speech and hearing, by appointment. Friday: Family planning, 8:30 to 11 a.m. Home health care by physician referral. For appointment call Polk County Health Dept. 894-8271. MONDAY. APRIL 14. 1980 Softball Opens The Tri-County Softball League opens tonight at 6:30 at Harmon Field. The League has 8 men teams and 6 women teams and will play until mid July. There will be 4 games on Monday starting at 6:30 and 5 games on Wednesdays and Saturdays with the first game beginning at 6. The League plays under ASA rules and uses ASA sanctioned umpires only. In the event of rain games are played on Sunday afternoons starting at 2 p.m. The Women teams are: Hensons, Draper All Stars, Rockettes, Hi-Lo, Riverbend and Walker’s Construction The Men’s teams are Tryon Federal Savings, Cooley Peach Farm, Bobby Johnson’s Paint, Lowry Chevrolet, G. L. Murphy, Doc’s Lounge, Ravan’s, Reid’s Truck Stop. White Oak Terrace At Kiwanis Tuesday The Tryon Kiwanic Club will meet Tuesday at 12:45 p.m. at The Dinner Bell. Mrs. Louise Radford will tell about White Oak Terrace — how the apartments operate and Mrs. Doris Cole will tell of the Nursing Center. Noah Bollenbacker is in charge of the program AT TRYON THEATRE "Great Train Robbery" will be shown at the Tryon Theatre this Wed., Thurs., Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Price 10c Per Copy Sports Banquet Is May 16th The Tryon Boosters Club is sponsoring the Tryon High School Athletic Banquet on Friday, May 16th at the Tryon gymnasium. Second Year For Tryon R.I.F. Project The Tryon R.I.F. Project will begin a second year of book distribution and story hour on Monday, April 14, at the Church of the Good Shepherd. This year the book distribution program will be expanded to include students in the Kinder garten and First Grade of Tryon Elementary School as well as the ^Mn fr ? m thc Polk County Child Development Center and the Stony Knoll Child Develop ment Center who were in the original project last year The expansion of the project is made possible by several factors There has been increa^ financial support from Individ uals and churches of community and an increased number of volunteers who win have the story hour with th children each week.
